Apple announced the iPhone 13 series and iPhone 13 Pro series on Tuesday at its ‘California Streaming’ virtual launch event. Following numerous leaks and rumors, Apple has released four new iPhone 13 models that correspond to last year’s iPhone 12 lineup: the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. All four have the same screen sizes and an overall design that is very similar to their predecessors. The iPhone 13 series notable improvements include longer battery life, redesigned cameras, a cinematic video recording mode, and narrower notches across the board. The four new iPhones will all be powered by the brand new A15 Bionic SoC and will come with iOS 15.

iPhone 13 series

In the United States, prices are the same as in the previous generation. However, the iPhone 13 mini begins at $699 and the iPhone13 starts at $799, and you will now have a storage rate of 128GB. iPhone 13 Pro is $999 while the iPhone 13 Pro Max is $1,099 with the same storage capacity than the previous generation. The iPhone SE (2020) starts at $399. And the iPhone 11 starts at $499 and the iPhone 12 is available at $599.


The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will be available in three storage configurations. In India, the iPhone 13 mini 128GB costs Rs. 69,900, the 256GB costs Rs. 79,900, and the 512GB costs Rs. 99,900. The iPhone 13 will be priced at Rs. 79,900, Rs. 89,900, and Rs. 99,900, in that order.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will both have up to 1TB of storage. The iPhone 13 Pro costs Rs. 1,19,900 for 128GB, Rs. 1,29,900 for 256GB, Rs. 1,49,900 for 512GB, and Rs. 1,69,900 for 1TB. The top-tier iPhone 13 Pro Max will cost between Rs. 1,29,900 and Rs. 1,39,900. It costs Rs. 1,59,900 and Rs. 1,79,900, making it Apple’s most expensive iPhone ever.

Meanwhile, in Nigeria, the iPhone 13 mini is expected to begin at N328,788.50 and the iPhone13 starts at N438,832.69, and you will now have a storage rate of 128GB. The iPhone 13 Pro is N658,523.65 to N930,602.37 while the iPhone 13 Pro Max with the same storage capacity than the previous generation is between N713,032.53 to N1,005,177.05.

Preorders will begin on September 17 in India, as well as the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, China, Australia, and Canada, with retail availability beginning on September 24.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are the first non-Pro iPhones to offer more than 256GB of storage. While the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are the first iPhones to offer up to 1TB of storage.

Screen Size

All four of the iPhone 13 series have the same screen size as their predecessors. Although, the screen area is 20 percent smaller. The 5.4-inch iPhone 13, six-inch iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max also get better brightness, although Apple’s 120Hz refresh rate feature is available only for the Pro models. The Pro models can scale 10Hz to 120Hz and dynamically adjust their refresher rates to a more responsive power efficient system, based on user input, like swipe speeds. Daytime luminosity for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models is 800 nits and 1000 nits. While the peak HDR luminosity for all four is 1200 nits. They support HDR10 and HLG, Dolby Vision.

The iPhone 13 and 13 mini have the same flat-edged aluminium frames as the previous generation, as well as Ceramic Shield material on the front and IP68 dust and water resistance ratings. They come in five new colours: Pink, Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and (Product) Red. The antenna lines are made from recycled plastic water bottles.

The iPhone 13 Pro models, have surgical grade stainless steel with a custom finish, making them resistant to abrasion and corrosion. Graphite, Gold, Silver, and Sierra Blue are the four new colours. The latter is made with multiple layers of nanometre-scale ceramic and has a matte textured back for improved grip.

Camera/Cinematic Display

On the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini is a new broad angle camera. This has the ability to capture 47 percent more light for less noise and a better result. It has 1.7um sensor pixels and an f/1.6 aperture, plus the iPhone 12 Pro Max sensor shift. Night Mode functions faster and takes sharper shots. The ultra-wide 12-megapixel camera is open f/2.4. The new cinematic video mode supports focusing, even when moving, in order to shift focus between subjects. When a subject enters the framework or looks away, transitions occur automatically in real time from one subject to another. Apple says it has been studying creative decisions taken by photography directors to guide the attention of users.

The iPhone 13 Pro models include a new 77 mm telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom. They also have an ultra-wide camera capable of taking macro shots up to 2 cm away from a subject. And a primary wide camera with an f/1.5 aperture and 1.9um sensor pixels. When using a tripod, it is said to capture more light, resulting in less noise, faster shutters, and longer brackets. Because of computational photography, all cameras, including the telephoto, now support Night Mode.

More so, users can use the presets and adjust Tone and Warmth sliders for influencing the on-device image rendering pipeline in Real-Time with their individual preferences. This works in different scenes and subjects and does not always have to be defined.

The new iPhones have a 5G feature. And are supported in more places by customized antennas and radio components. On-device machine learning allows new applications and enhances privacy through Siri audio requests’ on-device speech recognition.
