All four new iPhone models are based on Apple’s new A15 Bionic SoC, which features a 6-core CPU with two high-performance and four efficient cores, as well as a 16-core Neural Engine. The performance is said to be up to 50% better than the leading competition. While the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini have an A15 Bionic processor with a four-core GPU, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have a five-core integrated GPU.
Apple does not officially disclose the RAM and battery capacities of each model, but third-party teardowns will undoubtedly reveal this information in the near future. The iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 Pro will have 1.5 hours more battery life than their predecessors, while the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max will have 2.5 hours more battery life. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are the first non-Pro iPhones to offer more than 256GB of storage. While the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are the first iPhones to offer up to 1TB of storage.
All four of the iPhone 13 series have the same screen size as their predecessors. Although, the screen area is 20 percent smaller. The 5.4-inch iPhone 13, six-inch iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max also get better brightness, although Apple’s 120Hz refresh rate feature is available only for the Pro models. The Pro models can scale 10Hz to 120Hz and dynamically adjust their refresher rates to a more responsive power efficient system, based on user input, like swipe speeds. Daytime luminosity for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models is 800 nits and 1000 nits. While the peak HDR luminosity for all four is 1200 nits. They support HDR10 and HLG, Dolby Vision.
The iPhone 13 and 13 mini have the same flat-edged aluminium frames as the previous generation, as well as Ceramic Shield material on the front and IP68 dust and water resistance ratings. They come in five new colours: Pink, Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and (Product) Red. The antenna lines are made from recycled plastic water bottles.
The iPhone 13 Pro models, have surgical grade stainless steel with a custom finish, making them resistant to abrasion and corrosion. Graphite, Gold, Silver, and Sierra Blue are the four new colours. The latter is made with multiple layers of nanometre-scale ceramic and has a matte textured back for improved grip.
On the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini is a new broad angle camera. This has the ability to capture 47 percent more light for less noise and a better result. It has 1.7um sensor pixels and an f/1.6 aperture, plus the iPhone 12 Pro Max sensor shift. Night Mode functions faster and takes sharper shots. The ultra-wide 12-megapixel camera is open f/2.4. The new cinematic video mode supports focusing, even when moving, in order to shift focus between subjects. When a subject enters the framework or looks away, transitions occur automatically in real time from one subject to another. Apple says it has been studying creative decisions taken by photography directors to guide the attention of users.
The iPhone 13 Pro models include a new 77 mm telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom. They also have an ultra-wide camera capable of taking macro shots up to 2 cm away from a subject. And a primary wide camera with an f/1.5 aperture and 1.9um sensor pixels. When using a tripod, it is said to capture more light, resulting in less noise, faster shutters, and longer brackets. Because of computational photography, all cameras, including the telephoto, now support Night Mode.
More so, users can use the presets and adjust Tone and Warmth sliders for influencing the on-device image rendering pipeline in Real-Time with their individual preferences. This works in different scenes and subjects and does not always have to be defined.
The new iPhones have a 5G feature. And are supported in more places by customized antennas and radio components. On-device machine learning allows new applications and enhances privacy through Siri audio requests’ on-device speech recognition.
